Nosipho Dumsa joins Alma-Nalisha to talk about the new Netflix series ‘Blood and Water’
Nosipho Dumisa is a film and television writer/director at Gambit Films, a production company which she co-founded in 2009 that is focused on producing original content which resonates with audiences around the world. After years spent making small budget commercials, Nosipho returned to narrative filmmaking when in 2014, she co-directed the SAFTA award-winning short film titled, Nommer 37 (Number 37) for kykNET’s Silwerskerm Film Festival. The short film was realised as the feature motion picture of the same name in 2017, which Nosipho also wrote and directed, and had its world premiere at SXSW International Film Festival in March 2018. This was the first full South African production to ever have a world premiere at SXSW. In 2015, Dumisa also became a producer on the local daily soap drama, Suidooster. Her new Young Adult drama series, Blood & Water, is the second original Netflix series to come out of Africa and will debut in May 2020. Amongst her many accolades, are winning the Cheval Noir Jury Award for BEST DIRECTOR at Fantasia International Film Festival in 2018 and being named among the 2019 Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans.
